Overview
he English Patch is a tool that may be used to translate the vast majority of DBO's in-game text, and works with all versions of the game. The translations file offered with this patch is a work in progress, but currently contains over 18,500 translated lines of text.
If you have any suggestions for something you'd like to see translated, a translation you think can be improved, or if you're willing to help provide translations, then please check out our Translators' Forum.
How to use the Language Patcher
To apply the patch, all you'll need to do is extract the files to your DBO install folder, run the patch, and click on the "Patch Game" button.
If you want to uninstall the patch, just click the "Unpatch Game" button. It's strongly recommended that you unpatch prior to downloading any updates to the game through the game's launcher to avoid any complications.
Apart from these basic features, the patch also has a few optional settings:
Don't translate item names
The in-game auction house allows you to right click on an item to copy that item's name into the search box. This allows you to easily see what other people are selling the item for. If the item names are translated, you lose this functionality, and so it's recommended that this option be enabled.
Replace untranslated names with ID numbers
If no translation exists for the names of certain objects, such as quests, items, monsters, and NPCs, then the patch will give them numeric names. These names should be more identifiable to English speakers than the untranslated Chinese or Korean, and so it is recommended that it be turned on.
Replace untranslated text with ID names or numbers
If no translation exists for any line of text, then the patch will replace that line of text with identification numbers. This option is meant for users who are attempting to translate the game, and is not recommended for normal play.
Export translated and untranslated translations.txt files
When you patch your game, two files will be created: translations_translated_export.txt and translations_untranslated_export.txt. These files contain all of the lines of text that the Language Patcher is capible of modifying, one with your translations in place, and another without. This option it meant for people who want to use the Language Patcher to create their own translations files, whether it be in another language or to provide an alternate English translation.
Fix game bugs
Currently patches the game so that other users cannot intentionally crash your game client.
Only apply bug fixes; don't translate the game
The Language Patcher won't modify any of the game's language files, it will only fix the bugs mentioned above.
